The Aussie pop star hasn't just wowed the world of music - but enjoys success as a lingerie designer, an actress and a business woman.

Kylie first came to our attention in 1986 as Charlene Robinson in Neighbours - however, the young actress had already appeared in four other TV shows before she landed on Ramsay Street. While still on Neighbours, she'd performed a cover of The Locomotion at a charity function and the reception was amazing - so much so that she was rushed into a recording studio and the track was released - hitting the top spot in Australia for seven consecutive weeks in 1987 - the pop career had begun. When she left Neighbours in 1988, she went to London, where she was signed up by renowned producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman.

Her first UK hit was I Should Be So Lucky, which bagged the no.1 spot for five weeks - and helped the worldwide success of her first album, Kylie - but she also achieved success with her duet Especially For You, with Jason Donovan. The next year saw her second album, Enjoy Yourself, but Kylie was also starting to miss her acting. She worked on a small Australian film, The Delinquents, alongside Charlie Schlatter which, thanks to Kylie's name, was a box office success in both the UK and Australia. But despite this success and several more small film roles over the years, the focus of Kylie's career has been as a pop artist. She started work on her third album after Delinquents, which saw her move away from the cute pop kid to something sexier - this also tied in with her relationship with the late INXS star Michael Hutchence. With the release of her fourth album Let's Get To It, Kylie could move on from her original contract with Stock, Aitken and Waterman. This was a period of uncertainty for 21-year-old Kylie, who was being written off by the media as a pop princess who would be overshadowed by the new wave of Britpop acts like Oasis and Blur.

But Kylie wasn't of the same opinion, and she signed a multi-million pound deal with Deconstruction. It was decided she should veer more towards dance music, with her writing her own songs and controlling her own musical direction. In 1994 the album titled, Kylie Minogue, was released, featuring the hit Confide In Me which reached number four in the UK charts and was number one for five weeks in Australia.

A couple of bad movies were filmed during this time, Street Fighter and Bio-Dome, but the end of her relationship with Michael and her non-stop career saw her return home to Melbourne for a break. But in 1995 she met Nick Cave, with whom she released another chart success Where Wild Roses Grow - which reached no.11 in the UK.

By 1999 she'd signed a deal with Parlophone and EMI and her musical changed direction again to disco, and saw the release of hits such as Spinning Around. She also worked with Robbie Williams on Kids during this period. A big Australian and European tour followed, On A Night Like This, which won her numerous awards and helped make her hotpants famous.

In 2000, Kylie performed at the opening and closing cermonies of the Sydney Olympic games - meaning she was live to a worldwide audience of over 1 billion and a stadium of 180,000 - her biggest gig to date. In 2001 her popularity soared even more with the critically acclaimed album Fever which reached No. 1 in charts around the world and featured the hit Can't Get You Out Of My Head - she also starred in Baz Luhrmann's hit movie Moulin Rouge in 2001, taking on the role of The Green Fairy, alongside fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman. In 2002, Kylie's two year on-off relationship with model James Gooding - who was seven years her junior - came to an end for good. Kylie cites her full-on career as being to blame.

Kylie launched her own lingerie label Love Kylie in February 2003, which she combines with her still successful pop career and the range of Kylie dolls that she's also brought out. In 2003 she started going out with French actor Olivier Martinez - he attended the opening night of her Showgirl tour.

She launched the Showgirl - The Greatest Hits tour in March 2005 but has had to cancel the last few weeks due to being diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer.
