Melissa Joan Hart was born on April 18, 1976 in Sayville, New York.
Her acting career started at the age of four when she did a commercial for a bathtub toy called "Splashy". Melissa grew up in a large family, she has five younger sisters and a younger brother. All of her siblings, except the youngest have done some form of acting. Her mother Paula, has been her agent from the very begining of her career.
Melissa has appeared in the NBC TV-movie Christmas Show, and was a guest on The Equalizer, The Luci Arnaz Show, Saturday Night Live and Another World. She also starred in the ABC Weekend Special The Adventures of Con Sawyer and Hucklemary Finn.
Melissa performed in two plays, "Beside Herself" in 1989 and "Imagining Brad" in 1990. She was also in the National Actors Theatre production of "The Crucible" on Broadway with Martin Sheen. Melissa's big influences growning up were, Shirley Temple and Audrey Hepburn. She still collects Shirley Temple memorabilia.
For the past few years, she has been juggling acting and attending New York University. She's now living in the Los Angeles area, starring in the ABC TV series "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" (1996), which is produced by Hartbreak Films, the production company run by her and her mother.
